Today our Feature Friday is Oliver The 2nd, from The Black Jungle Squad based out of Chicago. The California born Young Verso and his cousin Jeremiah Jae have taken over the underground of the east coast in the past 2 years with their music. Creating a trademark sound for the group, Jeremiah Jae has made a name for himself as one of the best up and coming producers in the game today, bringing the whole team with him. We have been fans of both for a very long time and decided now would be a perfect time to feature one of our favorite artists. Hope you enjoy.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/175937715″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]
Oliver The 2nd from The Black Jungle Squad is emerging as one of the most creative artists to enter the music scene. Anyone who can make their own beats and spit a slick 16 bars over it is automatically one of my personal favorites, which the man does in basically every song he makes. I first heard of Oliver through his cousin (Jeremiah Jae) and their project Rawhyde, released in the summer of 2013 and was immediately hooked. Easily the most original piece of work I’ve ever purchased. Rawhyde encapsulates you into a completely different planet, blurring the lines of past and present with samples from old western movies, creating a perfect blend of music and theatrics creating a soundtrack fit for a Tarantino movie. I bought the shit that day and still can listen to the entire thing back to back with no skips, if you haven’t listened to it already. You can buy it HERE.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/74001704″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]
After listening to Rawhyde several times, I knew I wanted more, and Verso delivered. Dropping the single “Dominion”, Oliver delivers an insanely hard verse on a beat that could only come from the creative minds at BJS, it was a perfect teaser for one of the best mixtapes of 2014. Oliver released his debut EP “The Kill Off EP” on December 10th and it was worth the wait. For starters, the production on this shit is absolutely insane. Jae really outdid himself with this one, hearing sounds you’ve never heard before is always refreshing ESPECIALLY on a hip-hop album. The trademark BJS sound is perfected by Verso with flawless bars spit relentlessly. The consistency and flow of the tracks make it another easy back to back listen. Go buy that shit right now.
